“Wasting Time” is one of the strangest accusations we have ever invented as humans!
You can waste time sitting under a tree at 11 am and doing nothing. You can waste time at 6 pm looking at the sunset and doing nothing!
But, will the afternoon not pass if we don’t work for a day. Will the earth stop rotating if every human on the planet is not doing something or the other ? Will sun not rise if you don’t go to bed thinking about what you will work upon or achieve the next day ?
The feeling of guilt that often accompanies “doing nothing” is a fascinating psychological phenomenon. It is deeply ingrained and difficult to shake. Why do we feel like we are failing if we aren’t constantly moving?
But, because you didn’t convert those hours into money or errands or improvement, we decided the time was wasted as if simply being alive isn’t important!
So, that brings me to my next set of questions:
- What are we chasing?
- Are we living who we want to be or are we just following the routine because it has to be followed?
- Why do we feel guilty, when we do nothing?
This warped sense of success in life we have created around ourselves, is what’s taking a toll on us as humans.
The stillness gives birth to creativity , new experiences, innovations, emotions, relations and everything positive and beautiful, but the logic and arguments that we give, the tasks that we are continuously writing and rewriting in our being is keeping our left cerebrum always running is exactly what is slowing us down, making us sicker, making us burn out.
And, you did not get into this rat race when you became an adult. You have been conditioned into this since our childhood , since we started formal schooling. Our parents, teachers, relatives , the whole ecosystem questioned even a minute of sitting idle and the result ..from 6 years to 66 years ( or maybe even 86), we just keep running behind fictitious dreams, frivolous fulfilment and fraudulent success criteria
And unfortunately, we are passing the same “Always busy” syndrome to our kids..school, dance classes, karate classes, art classes, homework.. we are not making them creative, we are shaping them into machines!
So, today I ask you a simple question, whatever you are doing everyday, every month, every year, WHOM are you doing it for? and WHAT would success look like to you when you pass ? Will it be money, fame, health , place or something totally else?
More Importantly, Are you HAPPY today and what would keep you in this state of happiness till we move to a different form our atomic existence and energy signature?
But don’t answer this as you read, SLOW DOWN, sip a cup coffee (or tea or Beer) , look at sky for a minute and then spell out your answer!
This is not a contest. This is your duty to YOU!
